Shadow stepped out of his nest, stretching. Something felt off to him. He looked around his burnt down den, unable to put his paw on it. His gaze drifted to the caved in ceiling. He noticed that he could see the night sky. There's no way I slept an entire day, he thought, padding out of his den. What's going on.
He looked to the horizons and was astonished by what he saw. There seemed to be daylight coming in multiple directions! It was like the sun was rising from all around him.
Shadow's eyes widened as he realized what was going on. "No," he meowed, looking up. He was greeted by a black disc covering the sun. A bright ring could be seen all around it. "That can't be! The eclipse ended yesterday! What's going on?"
As if to answer his question , a bright light flashed before his eyes. He saw the light take the shape of three cats, their pelts filled with stars. He opened his mouth, ready to pour out a flood of questions, but no words came out.
"Who we are is not important," the second cat meowed, padding forwards. Her pelt was a brilliant blue; it was as if she had created the night sky with her own fur. The dappled stars were chips of ice in a frosty dark lake. Shadow breathed in her scent, in awe of everything before him. "What you need to know is this: we are angry."
Shadow's ears were pinned to his skull. "A-angry? With me? Why!" The black tom dug his claws into the dirt.
"Yes, with you. You have been blind to our many signs," the third cat said. Shadow winced. It was as if her amber eyes could see into his soul.
"We thought that burning down your nest would do it, but even that wasn't enough, so here we are," the third cat added flicking his tail.
Shaodw's eyes were the size of moons. "Y-you burned down my house?" He looked at his paws briefly. "I-I'm sorry. What were you trying to tell me."
The second cat almost looked surprised by his apology. She stepped forward, leaving a small pile of dust behind her. "The eclipse is your punishment," she meowed. "There is only one way to fix it, and it lies within you outsiders. You are Shadow, no? Find the missing parts of the eclipse and you will bring light to your land."
As if it were a dream, the three cats vanished and Shadow was left alone in the darkness. All he had was a dark riddle with no idea of how he could solve it.
